The space at 4221 N. Lincoln, located in the same building as Thresholds’ Young Adult Program, is dedicated to a clinic which provides primary care and mental health services. The clinic is run through a joint program between UIC College of Nursing and Thresholds. The space accommodates the needs not only of patients but also of nurses with whom we worked closely to create an efficient but comfortable space within only 825 sq. ft. Programmatic needs includes a new waiting area, reception, a private office accommodating 3 people, 3 therapy/exam rooms, 1 unisex bathroom and a lab area which is organized on either side of a central corridor linking a the waiting area to the rest of the building. Finishes were chosen carefully to create a calming environment and warm materials such as birch plywood were used throughout the space in custom casework, doors and wainscoting. A playful pattern was created with linoleum flooring to bring some texture to the space.
