Kenmore Plaza is a 324-unit, 28-story residential high-rise enabling seniors an affordable place to call home and age in place in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. Constructed in 1973, the building will be rehabbed to modernize the studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units and address the accessibility needs of residents. The reconfigured ground floor will provide direct benefits to seniors by increasing the area for community amenities and providing a larger management office where residents have access to on-site service coordinators. The upgrades extend into a private garden, where new walkways and lighting, benches, and a patio area will support resident comfort and security. Overall, the renovation will reduce operating costs through the use of durable and easy-to-maintain materials and energy efficient equipment, as well as improve energy and water efficiency over the long term.
