Landon Bone Baker Architects (LBBA) is seeking to hire a full-time community outreach coordinator. LBBA is a Chicago-based architectural firm with a strong reputation for bringing responsible design to affordable housing. LBBA is distinguished by a community-based approach, working closely with neighborhood organizations, non-profits associations, and developers of affordable housing to create the best possible solutions for residents. The position of Community Outreach Coordinator is dedicated to cultivating community partnerships and strengthening ties within the communities we serve.


Position Description

The ideal candidate for this position will be an articulate, well-organized professional who is able to support LBBA staff in pursuing new work and also participate in the preliminary phases of local jobs.


Essential Functions

The Community Outreach Coordinator’s primary responsibilities will be:

  • Assist non-profit clients in obtaining predevelopment grants.
  • Plan, facilitate, and document neighborhood charrettes that encompass architecture, financing, sustainability targets, and community input from a range of project stakeholders.
  • Lead the firm’s locally and nationally recognized Community Workshop; a six-week summer program employing high school students and college-age mentors to study building design and initiate change in their neighborhood through environmental assessment studies and community asset mapping.
  • Establish links and communication with local non-profit and community groups and cultivate existing relationships, including city agencies, by scheduling lunch & learn presentations and other events.
  • Research and organize Request for Proposals.
  • Maintain office graphics and a growing firm portfolio.
  • Administer firm website and blog.
  • Assist with presentations and coordinate award submissions.
  • Generate promotional ideas and strategies.
  • Collaborate with LBBA staff to identify meaningful outreach activities and support them in participation (i.e. AIA Chicago 2030 Commitment Working Group, Chicago Green Office Challenge, and BPI Affordable Housing Working Group).


Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong interest in architecture, urban planning, and/or community development in Chicago and the region.
  • Excellent communicator with great interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as the ability to write well and translate complex issues into simple language that people who are not experts can understand.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Prior experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office Suite. ArchiCAD and Google SketchUp experience are a plus.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree require in Architecture, Planning, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • One to three years of experience within the architecture and design field and/or practical marketing, communications, and graphics experience.
