Built in 1929, the Diplomat Hotel, located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, was most recently an ill-maintained SRO. The building will undergo a gut rehabilitation with a 100% floor plan reconfiguration that will reduce the previous SRO unit count from 91 units to 51 units. The building and program will be focused on providing residential units and supportive services for veterans and others who have mental illness and drug addiction. All of the units will be affordable and available to people with special needs.

Amenities will include ground floor resident supportive services, a community space/lobby, an exterior courtyard, a roof garden and deck, offices, a common laundry room, computer lab, and exercise room.

Mechanical systems and appliances will meet or exceed criteria checklists for Enterprise Green Communities and Chicago Green Homes. This includes Energy-Star rated appliances, low VOC materials and finishes, a green roof, and lighting that will meet or exceed Chicago Energy Conservation Code.

The project will also feature built-in custom designed Knothead furniture for storage, lobby furniture, and the reception area.
